Abstract

A green synthesis was employed to prepare silver nanoparticles via reduction of silver nitrate, by utilize Vitis vinifera fruit skin extract as reductant. The results evident that the silver nanoparticles were well formed, when mixing the methanolic Vitis vinifera fruit skin extract with silver nitrate. The resultant silver nanoparticles was duly characterized via Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), UV–vis spectrophotometer, transmission electron microscopy (TEM) techniques and scanning electron microscopy equipped with Energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (SEM/EDX). Further, silver nanoparticles size was measured through SEM, TEM and Zeta potential analysis. The functional group of organic molecules (over Vitis vinifera extract), which is liable for the reduction of silver ions was confirmed through FT-IR analysis. The Vitis vinifera extract and its respective silver nanoparticles produced were investigated for its antimicrobial activity against pathogenic bacteria viz., Staphylococcus epidermidis, Staphylococcus aureus and Listeria monocytogenes. The results evident the silver nanoparticle’s noteworthy antimicrobial potential against all screened bacteria. Further, anticancer screening of silver nanoparticles found effectively inhibit the proliferation of cancer cells (HeLa and MCF-7 cells).
