Abstract

Satellite and microwave communication systems need a large amount of power because they transmit the signal at long distances. It is important to develop environmentally friendly or energy-efficient communication systems to achieve the best results with low power consumption. This chapter provides an overview of microwaves and satellite communication systems and their energy-efficient techniques. Klystrons for microwave and transponders for satellite communication are described in a detailed manner. Satellite link design is useful for a wide range of applications. This chapter also describes energy-efficient techniques for microwave and satellite communication systems. Green satellite networks using 5G technology are discussed. Further, the applications and research opportunities of microwave and satellite communications are discussed.
