Abstract

The influence of seed vigor (especially seed age) and agroecological conditions on field emergence, green mass and dry matter yields of pea cultivar "Timo" was investigated in two years and two locations in eastern Croatia. The field emergence of pea was influenced by the locality, in both years, whereas 21 months old seeds showed significantly poorer emergence than 9 months old seeds. Green mass yield was similar in both years on both locations, but unexpectedly plants developed from the younger seed had significantly lower green mass yield than plants obtained from older seed in the second investigation year. Within the investigated factors only seed age had an effect on plant dry matter yield, and the higher emergence rate obtained with younger seed could diminished single plant development.
