Abstract

Shortage of natural resources, waste management issues and various environmental challenges such as global warming has enforced the organizations to abide by the strict environmental legislation. The agenda for implementing green manufacturing practices is growing over the decade. Therefore, green manufacturing activities act as a foundation for developing environment-friendly products. However, its implementation is a major concern Consequently, the need to eliminate these barriers is essential. This research paper aims to identify-nine such barriers based on literature and practitioners’ views. Total 565 research papers representing the global green manufacturing academic literature were evaluated which were indexed by Google Scholar and Scopus from the year 2010 to 2020, out of which only 123 relevant papers were identified. The results illustrated that there is a significant increase in publications related to green manufacturing. Further, this study elaborates on the potential barriers that can obstruct the implementation of GM practices in the manufacturing sector.
