Abstract
The concept of smart cities, powered by internet of things (IoT) technologies, has gained attraction in recent years as a means to address urban challenges and create sustainable urban environments. However, with the growing concern about environmental issues, there is a need to explore how IoT can be leveraged to make smart cities more eco-friendly and sustainable. This book chapter proposes to delve into the topic of green IoT for eco-friendly and sustainable smart cities by examining the role of IoT in enabling sustainable practices in various aspects of urban life, including energy management, waste management, transportation, and urban planning. The chapter will also highlight the challenges and opportunities of using IoT for sustainable smart cities and discuss potential solutions and best practices for building green IoT systems in urban environments.
