Abstract

With the rapid increase of the population and urbanization development urban inundation and runoff pollution put the water issue into an intense position. As an economic, efficient and environmental technique for storm water management, Low impact development (LID) and Green Infrastructure (GI) has been widely used to alleviate this situation in western countries. Taking Xinjin new town, China as an example, this paper shed a light on the way to establish a GI framework for towns' storm water management. Based on the urban rainwater hydrologic cycle, we summarize the space that runoff generated (named storm water unit). Each storm water unit consists of different elements. In accordance with the features of the elements, GI strategies were applied. These strategies work together synergistically and weave into storm water management web that control the runoff source effectively, and create a functional hydrological landscape.
