Abstract

Sustainable development is a widely used concept across all fields of sciences and is often referred to as the solution to many of our current problems, such as climate change and global social inequalities. Also, it might be the key to the economic and social development of the African continent, especially of the Sub-Saharan region. With the help of seven case studies, I attempt to prove that grassroot, community-led initiatives based on innovative approaches to sustainable development can foster the economy, fight poverty and help preserve the ecosystem across Sub-Saharan Africa.
