Abstract

In this paper several different kinds of pneumatic-mechanical compound transmission systems formed by two-step orthogonal toggle force-amplifying mechanisms and rod-less pneumatic cylinders are introduced. The working principles and mechanical calculating formulas of the actual systems are given as well. Two-step orthogonal toggle force-amplifying mechanisms have these advantages: the fine force-amplifying effect and a high efficiency of force conduction; the rod-less pneumatic cylinder has structural compactness and greater rigidity; pneumatic-mechanical compound transmission systems, the combinations of these two, can remedy the short comings of single pneumatic transmission in which the system pressure is very low and the output force is limited. On some occasions, pneumatic-mechanical compound transmission systems can be used instead of hydraulic transmission systems that cause environmental pollution.
