Abstract

N-doped carbon supported Fe3N (Fe3N/NBC) was obtained via direct carbonization of potassium ferrate (PF), urea and biowaste in nitrogen. The use of PF simultaneous realized nitridation of iron without using ammonia atmosphere, formation of Fe3N and activation of the NBC. Fe3N/NBC used as magnetic absorbent showed good ability to absorb trichloroethene (TCE) at pH = 3–11 or under co-presence of various inorganic anions (Cl − , SO42 − , NO3 − and PO43 − ) and could be easily separated from liquid and regenerated with steady performance. This study may provide new insights into cost-effective and green production of Fe3N-based composites.
