Abstract
This chapter discusses how the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) and interrelated economic and political objectives of the Chinese government play out in the Greek context. The chapter opens with the background of Sino-Greek relations. It continues with the BRI’s political and economic objectives in the context of Greece and Southeastern Europe, and the Near East, exploring the expectation that Greek policymakers, business people, and ordinary citizens have had from the prospects of economic activities that the BRI seeks to bring to the country. Finally, the chapter sets Sino-Greek relations in their European context, analyzing the impact of the BRI on the European Union as a political and economic bloc.
