Abstract

Abstract We observed a greater roadrunner (Geococcyx californianus) kill a juvenile desert cottontail (Sylvilagus audubonii) in Anza Borrego State Park, San Diego County, California. We estimated that the cottontail was several weeks old based on its pelage, length of ear, and size relative to the roadrunner. This is the largest prey known to be captured by a roadrunner.
