Abstract

In January, April and June of 2003, through the balance method time series for grazing, ingestion, and filtration rates of Acartia clausi were generated in a sampling station in the Bay of La Paz, Mexico. Changes in the sea surface temperature and concentration of chlorophyll a were also determined. Day to day filtration rates had significant changes in April (p<0.05), but not in January and June. The grazing and ingestion rates showed significant day to day changes during January, April and June. Monthly comparison showed that January and April rates were significantly different from the June rates. No correlation between daily grazing rate and sea surface temperature was found, and the relationship between chlorophyll a concentration and sea temperature was negative and significant. Potential impact of grazing on chlorophyll a production was higher in January compared to other months suggesting seasonal effect in theabundance of A. clausi due to chlorophyll a production.

MATERIAL Y MÉTODOS

Bahía de La Paz se localiza en la parte sur-occidental del Golfo de California (Fig. 1). La forma más común de describir la tasa de alimentación en herbívoros planctónicos es a través de modelos no lineales (Wroblewski & O'Brien, 1976; Steele, 1976; Mullin et al, 1975) y dado que se ha demostrado que las distintas tasas vitales siguen una relación alométrica (Ikeda, 1970; Peters, 1994), los datos de pastoreo fueron analizados en función de la temperatura superficial del mar y de la concentración de clorofila a mediante el modelo g = a (Variable)b, donde a y b son constantes, con un intervalo de confianza de 95%.
