Abstract

Within the framework of linearised elastodynamics and gravidynamics the gravitational radiation of an isotropic elastic sphere without internal damping is calculated. After thermal occupation of the energy eigenstates the authors find gravitational luminosities proportional to T2 and T for T<TD and T>>TD, respectively (TD is the Debye temperature). In both cases the luminosity is proportional to the surface of the sphere, although the material is transparent for gravitational radiation.
