Abstract

Gravels of the floor of the southern North Sea can be subdivided into four groups according to grain size, composition and roundness. The first gravel type consists of fluvial pebbles deposited by Pleistocene rivers between the south-east coast of Britain and the coast of Belgium. The main components of the gravel are flint, limestone and sandstone & quartzite.
