Abstract

The central Illinois community of Pekin is the first city in Illinois to develop an overlay zoning ordinance strictly for the protection of the community's well water groundwater recharge area. As the largest community in Tazewell County, the City of Pekin (population 32,254) took early action to protect its highly vulnerable community groundwater supply wells.
