Abstract

More than 57 species of leafhoppers representing 34 genera were collected from 4 types of upland seeded pastures at Hays, Kansas: western wheatgrass, switchgrass, Caucasian bluestem, and a native mixuire of warmseason grasses. Nine species were found consistently and in numbers high enough to warrant further study: Athysanella attenuata Baker, Balclutha incisa (Matsumura), B. neglecta (DeLong & Davidson), Endriainimica (Say), Exitianus exitiosus (Uhler), Graminella mohri DeLong, Lacvicephahis parvulus (Gillette), Macrosteles fascifrons (St#x00E5;l), and Mocuellus caprillus Ross & Hamilton. Of these, A. attenuata and M. caprillus were restricted to western wheatgrass pasture. G. mohri was collected most often in switchgrass pasture, and Laevicephahis sp. apparently preferred native mixture pasture. Further information on all species collected is included.
