Abstract

The atomisation of aluminium from aluminium nitrate in a pyrolytic graphite furnace has been investigated by mass spectrometry. In keeping with thermochemical predictions, a strong signal is observed fo A1 + from gaseous A1, but only weak signals for A1 2O + from gaseous A1 2O. An intermittent signal detected at m/z 39 is probably due to NaO + from contamination of the sample by sodium.
