Abstract
A four element graphite calorimeter consisting of a cylindrical absorber, jacket, mantle and shield was developed for direct measurement of absorbed dose at the centre of a 30 cm diameter and 30 cm height graphite phantom irradiated to 60Co γ-radiation in a radiation processing plant. The accuracy of the absorbed dose to graphite was estimated to be ±0.8% at a dose level of 40 × 10 −2 Gy s −1 (40 rad/s). The thermal kinetics of the calorimeter have been investigated.
