Abstract

Summary The planning of high flux reactor irradiations for the preparation of radioisotopes, where the effect of multiple neutron capture has to be taken into account, is facilitated by the introduction of a series of graphs representing calculated data for a wide range of fluxes. General formulae for the calculation of activities produced by Single and double neutron capture are given, and the validity of various approximations is discussed. Comprehensive calculations are presented for gold and tantalum in the flux range from 1011 n/cm2 • sec to 1015 n/cm2 • sec, graphs being given for maximum activities versus flux together with growth curves for discrete flux values.
