Abstract

Global/Regional Assimilation and Prediction System (GRAPES) is a newly developed numerical weather prediction (NWP) system in Chinese Meteorological Administration (CMA), within it three dimensional variational (3DVAR) data assimilation is a important component. 3DVAR is a good way on using remote sensing data directly or indirectly to adjust atmospheric parameters for creating model initial values. The implementation of GRAPES 3DVAR is described and some preliminary applications on remote sensing data assimilation applications are presented.
