Abstract
Macleod and Ormsby, 1 Leiner and Spieler, 2 Whitfield, 3 Gougerot and Laroche 4 and others reported finding tubercle bacilli in lesions of papulonecrotic tuberculid, as determined by both animal inoculation and study of slides. Pollitzer, 5 Brault, 6 Gaucher, 7 Messa, 8 Ledo, 9 MacKee 10 Elliott, 11 Guy 12 and many other careful investigators presented evidence against tuberculosis as the cause of the condition. Opinions of contemporary writers are quite as confusing as those of the aforementioned authors. It would seem advisable to adopt the term granuloma papulonecroticum, as suggested by Pollitzer, because it becomes apparent that the clinical picture may occur as a tuberculous manifestation or independently of tuberculosis. The following case is reported because of findings contrary to the tuberculous theory of its genesis and an apparent cure resulting from the intracutaneous administration of a bacterial antigen.
