Abstract

Granular systemic insecticides Were applied to the soil at planting time to evaluate the resulting insect control on okra, southernpeas, cucumbers, lettuce, turnips, and spinach. Insects which were controlled in varying degrees included the leafminer ( Liriomyza munda Frick), tobacco flea bectles ( Epitrix hirtipennis (Melsheimer) and E. parvula F.), turnip aphid ( Rhopalosiphum pseudobrassicae (Davis), thrips ( Frankliniella occidentalis (Pergande)) and the spotted cucumber beetle ( Diabrotica undecimpunctata howardi Barber). Insect control was evident from 19 to 97 days. Parasites of the leafminer were not significantly reduced by the insecticide treatments.
