Abstract

As music software becomes increasingly complex and correspondingly expansive, it's refreshing to find a program that does a routine task in a straightforward fashion, at a reasonable price. One such program is MusicEase, a music notation program from Grandmaster, Ind. Designed for IBM or compatible PC, XT, AT, or 386-based systems running PC-DOS or MS-DOS, the program provides a quick way to enter music, edit the score on-screen in conventional music notation using a WYSIWIG (what you see is what you get) editor, and print out the results (Fig. 1). MusicEase is written in MuLISP, one of the fastest, most compact microcomputer implementations of the LISP programming language. It uses MuLISP's standard menuing interface; anyone who's familiar with MuLISP or with Microsoft Word's menu structure (which is similar to MuLISP's) will feel at home in MusicEase.
