There is increasing evidence that the hypothalamus is involved in the regulation of energy balance and glucose homeostasis and, in the occurrence of diabetes (Elmquist and Marcus, 2003; Prodi and Obici, 2006)
Studies on the brain control of metabolism and endocrine system are difficult and only translational research will provide robust data to be translated into clinical practice

For almost a century endocrine research has focused on the interaction between hormones and their receptors, providing major advances in the understanding of endocrine system physiology.
