Introduction

I will quote only a few examples of the grand challenges that wait to be tackled in the near future. Studies on the brain control of metabolism and endocrine system are difficult and only translational research will provide robust data to be translated into clinical practice. For almost a century endocrine research has focused on the interaction between hormones and their receptors, providing major advances in the understanding of endocrine system physiology.
