Abstract

This article seeks to develop a Gramscian approach to the analysis of international relations and to apply it to the Middle East peace process, specifically the relations betweet and among Israel, Jordan, and the Palestinians. It argues that the application of a Gramscian perspective on the social organization of the state and society significantly can enhance our understanding of why the peace process between Israelis and Palestinians derailed and why Jordanian-Israeli peace grew 'cold' even prior to the al-Aqsa intifada.
