Abstract

Grain boundary precipitation of M 23C 6 in Alloy 800 has been measured experimentally and predicted theoretically. The original grain boundary precipitation kinetics theories have been modified and combined to account for nucleation, for variable collector plate area and for different precipitate morphologies. Reasonable predictions of the observed precipitation kinetics are made in the form of isothermal precipitation curves. At normal ageing temperatures the best model involves nucleation + circular variable collector plate growth control.
