Abstract

Topological characteristics of interface aggregates are considered and experimental results on the connectivity of grain boundary networks in materials prone to annealing twinning are presented. The impact of spatial arrangement of grain boundaries on material resistance to intergranular degradation is discussed. This consideration shows the importance of studying not only the grain boundary character distribution, but also the grain boundary network arrangement for the development of the grain boundary engineering approach.
