Abstract

2D grain coarsening CA models based on the grain boundary curvature models of Kremeyer and Mason were established. The parameters needed in the two models were obtained via different methods. Then, the grain growth kinetics, grain size distribution, topological aspects and individual grain growth kinetics were deeply studied with these two curvature based CA models. The grain growth exponents of both models were close to 2 which was a constant derived from theory and verified experimentally. The Weibull function has a better fitting for the simulation results than the other analytical distributions proposed by Hillert and Rios. The topological aspect of both models was analyzed with the Aboav-Weaire relation. Excellent agreements between the simulation results and the Aboav-Weaire relation were obtained. At last, a new relationship was proposed to calculate the growth rate of individual grains.
