Abstract

When asked to lead the Lancet Commission on ending stigma and discrimination in mental health, Professor Sir Graham Thornicroft of the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology and Neuroscience, King's College London, UK, set down a key principle. “The very nature of the topic meant that people with lived experience of mental health conditions had to be central to it”, he says. So he invited Charlene Sunkel to act as Commission Co-Chair. Sunkel is Founder and Chief Executive Officer of the Global Mental Health Peer Network and has lived experience with schizophrenia.
