Abstract

A method of grafting lignin was developed which allows styrene graft copolymers of lignine to be quantitatively made. The reaction was carried out in solution using a redox reaction involving hydrogen peroxide and chloride ions. Grafting changes the solubility and surface properties of lignin, converting it to a thermoplastic.
