Abstract

This essay on the spatial poetics of urban graffiti and the concept of the frontier is conceived as a series of explorations—first of the text I have taken for my title and the frontier spaces of the wall, the slum, and the cemetery, then of the essentially modern American space of property, and finally of the postmodern nonterritories constructed by computers. In conclusion, I question the problematic superimposition of these different types of spaces in our lives today.
