Abstract

• Medical educators and medical schools should take the initiative in providing two-and-three-year well-rounded internship-residency programs for those who desire them in general practice. Such programs should develop clinical judgment, bring realization of limitations as well as capabilities, create a sacred sense of ethical and moral responsibility, and add a quality of professional maturity. Restriction of hospital opportunities to doctors certified by boards is unjust and discriminatory. The general resident should be accorded the same prestige and dignity as is given to residents in any other medical field.
