Abstract

The gradients of the real structure parameters (stress, particle size, textures, etc.) are present in surface of steels or another material after surface machining, e.g., grinding, shot-peening, burnishing. To study these gradients, X-ray diffraction measurements under various conditions, i.e., radiations, tilt angles ψ, diffraction angles 2θ, can be useful. The aim of the contribution is to discuss the effect of penetration of the used radiation into a matter and depth averaging of parameters of the real structure. The radiations Cu Κα , Co Kα , Cr Kα , most frequently used in laboratory conditions, have been considered in the present study.
