Abstract

Editors' Note: In reference to “GPi vs STN deep brain stimulation for Parkinson disease: Three-year follow-up,” Drs. Sidiropoulos and LeWitt suggest that the study findings could be due to suboptimal globus pallidus internus (GPi) programming and targeting imprecision. Odekerken et al., authors of the study, disagree and offer several arguments to support their findings, which showed superiority of subthalamic nucleus (STN) over GPi deep brain stimulation. Commenting on “Statin pretreatment is associated with better outcomes in large artery atherosclerotic stroke,” Dr. Goldstein further discusses the benefit of statin on cerebrovascular events and functional outcome, citing 2 exploratory analyses based on data from the Stroke Prevention by Aggressive Reduction in Cholesterol Levels (SPARCL) trial.
