Abstract

This article highlights the most important stages of the life and work of V.F. Utkin—an outstanding Soviet and Russian scientist, designer and organizer of work in the field of rocket and space technology, academician of the Academy of Sciences of the Ukrainian SSR (1976), the USSR Academy of Sciences (1984; since 1991, RAS), the International Academy of Astronautics, and the Tsiolkovskii Academy of Cosmonautics (president from 1997 to 2000). Utkin was directly involved in the development of the country's rocket and space industry. Under his leadership, strategic silo and mobile missile systems, as well as spacecraft, were created.
