Abstract
Unemployment measures were not as numerous as might have been expected. The federal government set up a stabilization board of Secretaries to provide for long-term planning of public works. New York and New Jersey organized temporarily to encourage employment and aid the unemployment on the basis of local units supervised and financially aided by the state. The principle of executive responsibility through singleheaded departments is gaining ground in state administration; though for minor purposes, especially the regulation of trades and professions, the board holds its own. The interest in improvement of parole administration did not flag in 1931.
