Abstract

<h3>DEPARTMENT OF DEFENSE</h3><h3>Civilian Doctors Honored.—</h3> Three outstanding civilian physicians employed by the Department of Defense were given the Distinguished Civilian Service Award, the highest honor conferred on its employees by the department. The recipients were Dr. David McK. Rioch, Director of the Division of Neuropsychiatry at the Walter Reed Army Institute of Research in Washington, D.C.; Dr. Van M. Sim, Chief of the Clinical Research Division at the U. S. Army Chemical Research and Development Laboratories, Army Chemical Center, Maryland; and Dr. Lawrence E. Lamb, Director of the Consultation Services, School of Aerospace Medicine, U. S. Air Force. <h3>PUBLIC HEALTH SERVICE</h3><h3>Research Grants.—</h3> Dr. Luther L. Terry, Surgeon General of the Public Health Service, has discontinued the practice of awarding research grants to profit-making institutions. In the future, research performed by such organizations will be supported only through contracts. The action followed a study by the Intergovernmental Relations Subcommittee
