Abstract

It is the purpose of this article to describe government information in machine-readable data files in relation to other formats and to examine requirements for their acquisition, preservation, and utilization in retrieval and reference services. Skill and knowledge adjustments on the part of librarians are also discussed. The primary emphasis is on computer tapes.
