Abstract

Research on the subject indicates the need to construct appropriate governance and management models for research networks to ensure their effectiveness and success in achieving their objectives and outcomes. In this context, this study aims to characterize the current knowledge about the possibilities and limitations of adopting governance and management models for research networks, considering the characteristics of the environment in which this structure will be implemented. A literature review was conducted using the Google Scholar, Scielo, and Science Direct knowledge bases, considering scientific and open review articles published between 2010 and 2020. The results indicated that, to build and adopt more suitable governance and management models for networks, factors such as relationship quality, number of participants, strategy, management structure and process, planning and coordination, technological resources, and information systems need to be evaluated. However, no specific studies were found on the construction and use of governance and management models for research networks. It can be concluded that in shaping network environments and structuring governance and management mechanisms, it is important to prioritize characteristics involving social, political, technical, and economic aspects in the analysis.
