Abstract

Many gynecologic surgeons hesitate to use depo-lupron prior to myomectomy due to the concern for distortion of the tissue planes. However, use of depo-lupron is effective for preoperative treatment of heavy bleeding and severe anemia, thus reducing the risk of blood transfusion. It can also reduce the size of the fibroids. Reduced uterine size can make robotic myomectomy easier due to the increased distance usually required between the top of the uterus and the robotic instruments.
