Abstract

To promote and monitor organizational adherence to core measures of The Joint Commission (TJC). Exclusive breast milk feeding is a long expressed goal of the World Health Organization (WHO), American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG), and the Department of Health and Human Services and was identified by TJC as Core Measure PC-05 in January 2010. There is no greater health care challenge than that of clinical information and documentation. It is in gathering and making accessible information about the patient, about care provided and outcomes that we will be able to measure the number of exclusively breast milk fed newborns compared with all term newborns.
