Abstract

This article takes an in-depth look at the East Bayside neighborhood in Portland, Maine, and the history and impact of a yearlong arts project called Meeting Place, which was conceived and produced by Art At Work (AAW). The AAW program has been experimenting since 2007 in partnership with the City of Portland Maine to implement arts-based solutions to nonarts municipal challenges. Meeting Place served as a national model of this practice as part of the National Endowment for the Art's Our Town grant for creative place making.
