Abstract

Conclusion: Young women in the early Stages of Change for STD screening (PC C and P) were less likely to use behavioral processes than those in the later stages (A and M). These results are consistent with other studies exploring adoption of a new behavior. Interventions focusing on increasing young women’s use of experiential and behavioral processes of change maybe useful in increasing STD screening in at-risk young women. Thus the Transtheoretical Model of Change is a promising theoretical foundation for developing such interventions. (excerpt)
