Abstract

Swelling of cation-exchange resins in mixtures of water and organic solvents A bibliographic review on the swelling of cation-exchange resins in mixtures of water and organic solvents has been carried out. The results found in the literature are presented through graphs in a set of consistent units allowing easy comparison. The influence of various factors on the two parameters which feature the swelling of an ion exchanger, i.e., the amount of liquid absorbed and its composition, is discussed. These factors are: nature of the ion exchanger, counter ion, cross-linking, nature of the solvent, and composition of the water-organic solvent mixture.
