Abstract
The polarization function is calculated for a pion moving in nuclear matter with the linear coupling to pions, and collective excitations of particle- hole pairs are discussed using a fieldtheoretic scheme. Approximations are made consistent with a generalized Ward identity, and it is examined how Goldstone excitations can occur in the interacting pion-nucleon system. (LBS)
