Goldin May Cancel NASA Earth Probe

Abstract

The Clark satellite was to be a model of NASA Administrator Dan Goldin9s faster, cheaper, better approach to space missions: a small craft laden with instruments for observing Earth9s surface and the sun, all for just $54 million. But Goldin is now considering a recommendation to cancel the mission due to poor management, a host of technical troubles, and spiraling costs. Sources say the ax could fall as early as this week, although program supporters are lobbying hard to keep Clark alive.
