Going on vacation increases risk of severe accidental allergic reaction in children and adolescents

Abstract

Short holiday breaks with family, away from routine and familiar surroundings are an important part of childhood 1. To date, studies of the risks for allergic people, while on holiday, examine accidental allergic reactions (AARs) aboard airplanes or avoidance strategies of nut allergic adults 2-4. There is limited, published data, on the risk of vacation related accidental allergic reactions (VAARs), in food allergic children, who commonly have multiple allergies 5. Their use of restaurants versus self- catering has not been defined.
