Abstract

Students are seated in rows with no direct eye contact possible. The classroom is quiet apart from the gentle clicking sounds of keyboards and occasional ripples of laughter, yet the students are animatedly communicating with one another. This seemingly paradoxical situation is possible thanks to technology: Students are chatting about texts they are reading over networked computers.
