Abstract

Astudy was conducted in the tribal and non-tribal areas of Panchmahals district of central Gujarat during the year 2011–13. The data for study were collected from a total of 240 households (120 from each group) by adopting the proportionate random sampling method. In both the areas, majority of goat rearers sold their male kid @ Rs. 500 at 3 months, followed by Rs 1500 at 6 months and Rs 2500 at 12 months of age. Females were sold @ Rs. 2000 at one year to 3500 at 2 years of age. It was also observed that farmers sold their goats to petty traders in villages. The results of study indicated that in the present system of marketing both the consumers and the producers were affected whereas butchers and middle men were benefited.
