Abstract

Abstract This paper presents some central issues involved in modelling basic properties of technical systems. In that respect, means-oriented and goal-oriented approaches are described, and the role of goal-oriented methods in a more systematic systems description and modelling is emphasised. The features of three such methods, Goal Tree–Success Tree, Multilevel Flow Modelling, and Hybrid MFM-GTST are discussed and compared.
